Project Management? Even Solopreneurs Need It

Think it’s overkill when you’re a team of one? Basic project management skills are the key to finishing things on time and on budget.

We start with enthusiasm, get lost in the weeds, then feel demoralized and give up mid-project.

  • Scope creep kills profits: Define at the start EXACTLY what is (and isn’t) included to avoid endless unpaid work.
  • Break it down: Big projects feel overwhelming. Smaller milestones make it less daunting to keep going.
  • Set realistic deadlines: Account for the unexpected, so you’re not constantly apologizing for delays.
  • Track your progress: Visually seeing what’s done keeps you motivated, and helps spot roadblocks early.
  • Review and refine: After each project, analyze what went well and where you could improve for next time.
  • Tools are your friends: Trello, Asana, etc. Experiment to find what works for your brain, even a simple spreadsheet is better than nothing.

What project are you currently procrastinating on? Why?

Even without fancy tools, sketch out the major milestones of that project on a piece of paper.
