Flexibility is Part of the Plan
We think having a vision means rigidly sticking to the course, no matter what. Actually, the smartest entrepreneurs know when to pivot.
Clinging to an outdated vision keeps you pouring resources into something that’s no longer viable (or desirable).
- Vision vs. ego: Are you attached to the specific IDEA of your business, or the ultimate OUTCOME you want to create?
- Follow the energy: What lights you up NOW? Your vision is allowed to evolve as you do, don’t force it.
- Data informs, not dictates: Pay attention to what’s working, what’s flopping, adjust the plan accordingly.
- Sunk cost fallacy trap: Don’t keep throwing good money after bad because you’ve ALREADY invested so much.
- Get outside feedback: Loved ones can be biased, but a mentor sees what you’re blind to, good AND bad.
- Sometimes it’s the timing, not the idea: A brilliant concept executed at the wrong time will fail. Shelve, don’t abandon.
Is there a past project you clung to for too long? What could you let go of NOW?
Do a mini-audit: Are your current actions truly aligned with your big vision? Be ruthless!
