Walking in unprepared is a recipe for accepting a subpar deal. Do this homework first:
- Know Your Worth: Market research, what do similar pros charge for comparable value?
- Your Walk-Away Point: The absolute minimum you’ll accept, and WHY it’s non-negotiable.
- Ideal vs. Acceptable: What’s the dream outcome, and what’s still a win even if not perfect?
- Their Pressure Points: Are they on a deadline? Use that to your advantage subtly.
- Anticipate Their Asks: Prepare counter-offers so you’re not caught off guard.
- Practice Makes Perfect: Role-play with a friend, say the numbers OUT LOUD to get comfortable.
The most confident negotiators are those who’ve done the legwork in advance.
Invest time in solid preparation, and it pays off with a better outcome.
