The Comparison Trap: EnvyEntrepreneur, Melbourne, Australia

Comparisonitis with other entrepreneurs was a real problem.

G’day, I’m EnvyEntrepreneur from Melbourne, Australia. As a social media consultant, I was constantly bombarded with the highlight reels of other entrepreneurs’ lives. Their seemingly perfect businesses, glamorous lifestyles, and overnight successes left me feeling inadequate and discouraged.

How I Broke Free from Comparison:

  • Limited my social media consumption: I reduced the time I spent on platforms that triggered feelings of envy and comparison. I unfollowed accounts that made me feel bad about myself and followed those that inspired and motivated me.
  • Focused on my own journey: I reminded myself that everyone’s path is different and that comparing myself to others was unproductive and unfair.
  • Celebrated my own wins: I shifted my focus from what I lacked to what I had accomplished, acknowledging my own successes and progress.
  • Practiced gratitude: I kept a gratitude journal, listing three things I was grateful for each day, to shift my mindset towards abundance and appreciation.
  • Connected with authentic voices: I sought out entrepreneurs who were open about their struggles and vulnerabilities, reminding me that everyone faces challenges and that success doesn’t happen overnight.

Comparison is the thief of joy. By limiting your exposure to triggers, focusing on your own journey, celebrating your wins, and practicing gratitude, you can break free from the comparison trap and cultivate a healthier mindset. Remember, your worth is not determined by your follower count or your bank balance – focus on your own unique path to success.
