Own Your Decisions (Even the Bad Ones)
Mistakes happen. It’s how you respond to those that determines long-term entrepreneurial success.
We beat ourselves up over bad calls, undermining confidence for the NEXT decision we have to make.
- Every “no” leads you closer to a “yes”: Not getting a client/deal means you have space for the RIGHT one.
- Sunk cost fallacy trap: Don’t keep pouring resources into something that’s clearly failing, out of stubbornness.
- Pivot, don’t punish: What can you learn from the mistake to avoid repeating it, instead of dwelling in shame.
- Transparency builds trust: With teams, or clients…owning a bad call fosters respect more than hiding it.
- Apologize when needed: Sincerely, without defensiveness. Then focus on fixing the situation, not your ego.
- Document your decision process: Helps identify patterns in what works for you, and what doesn’t.
Share a time you turned a ‘bad’ decision into a win through a pivot or mindset shift.
Did you make the best decision you could at the time, with the info you had? If yes, be kind to yourself.
