The Doubtful Decision-Maker: SecondGuessSue, Auckland, New Zealand
Self-doubt crept in, making me question my decisions.
Kia Ora, I’m SecondGuessSue from Auckland, New Zealand. As a small business owner, I was constantly bombarded with decisions, big and small. But self-doubt would often creep in, making me second-guess my choices and hesitate to move forward.
How I Cultivated Confidence:
- Acknowledged my self-doubt: Instead of trying to suppress my doubts, I learned to acknowledge them and investigate their roots.
- Practiced self-compassion: I reminded myself that everyone makes mistakes and that self-doubt is a normal part of the human experience.
- Gathered information and feedback: I sought out expert advice, conducted market research, and solicited feedback from trusted colleagues to inform my decisions.
- Made a decision and committed to it: Once I had gathered enough information, I made a choice and stuck with it, even if I felt unsure.
- Learned from my mistakes: When things didn’t go as planned, I analyzed what went wrong, learned from my mistakes, and used that knowledge to make better decisions in the future.
Self-doubt is a common challenge, but it doesn’t have to paralyze you. By acknowledging your doubts, practicing self-compassion, gathering information, and learning from your mistakes, you can build confidence in your decision-making abilities. Remember, trust your instincts, learn from your experiences, and keep moving forward.
